The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario has imposed a $120,000 fine on online casino operator Betty for failing to verify player ages. The sanction was issued in August 2026 after the regulator identified system vulnerabilities that permitted minors to create accounts and deposit funds.
Betty reported the issue to the AGCO in November 2025. The operator discovered a technical flaw in its age verification controls. As a result, nine individuals under the age of 19 were able to register, deposit money, and place bets. An additional 14 underage users successfully created accounts but did not make any financial transactions.
Regulatory Standards and Market Context
Dr. Karin Schnarr, CEO and registrar at the AGCO, stated that the legal age requirement is a basic safeguard in the regulated market. She noted that operators are responsible for ensuring systems work before going live.
The regulator emphasized that action will be taken when these responsibilities are not met to protect young people.
This penalty follows recent enforcement actions against other industry participants. In May, Relax Gaming and Arrise Solutions received $40,000 fines for hosting games on unregulated sites. Great Canadian Entertainment also faced two separate penalties in June and July.
Betty recently expanded its operations by launching in the UK igaming market.
