The Brazilian Ministry of Finance has issued compliance notices to 37 fintech companies for processing payments on behalf of unlicensed betting operators. The regulatory action targets financial intermediaries servicing 160 illegal wagering platforms across the country.
Fintech providers must terminate transactions with non-compliant bookmakers by the end of August. Continued processing of payments for unauthorized operators will trigger joint liability, financial penalties, account fund restrictions, and formal administrative reviews.
Market Enforcement and Licensing Requirements
Authorities are coordinating with the National Telecommunications Agency to restrict user access to unauthorized wagering sites. Officials have already blocked approximately 54,000 domains associated with non-compliant operators. Government estimates indicate that between 41% and 51% of betting services currently used in Brazil lack official authorization.
Legal operation on the Brazilian market requires a Ministry of Finance license, adherence to responsible gambling standards, and registration under the .bet domain extension. Companies failing to meet these criteria remain subject to ongoing regulatory enforcement.
