The Prize Competition Council (PCC) has officially launched as the dedicated trade association for the UK prize draw sector. Announced on Wednesday, the new body aims to unite more than 50 operators to promote responsible standards and enhance player protections.
The establishment of the PCC follows the implementation of a voluntary code of conduct. The government published the code in November of last year, and it became effective in May. The framework addresses ethical marketing and player safety, introducing mechanisms for users to set monthly spend limits while allowing operators to enforce their own restrictions.
Governance and Strategic Goals
The inaugural board, elected for a two-year term, includes George McGregor as independent chair. Other members represent Winvia Entertainment PLC, Jumbo Interactive UK, Pristine Competitions, Seven Days Performance, The GiveAway Guys, McKinney Competitions, Paragon Competitions, and Two Fat Ladies Competitions. Jo Bucci, the founding member, stated that the board structure addresses the challenges the sector faces.
George McGregor emphasized that the council reflects the growing maturity of the industry.
The organization outlined immediate priorities, including the development of sector-wide guidance and training materials. The PCC also intends to act as a representative voice in policy discussions with regulators. The group stressed its commitment to inclusive representation for smaller businesses.
Prize competitions in the UK exist within a complex regulatory environment, often distinguished from gambling and lottery regulations. The council aims to provide clarity and support within this specific legal framework.
