Entain has confirmed plans to eliminate approximately 500 positions across its global workforce. The restructuring program targets corporate functions, product development, and technology sectors.
Restructuring and Financial Impact
The layoffs represent roughly 2 per cent of the company’s total staff. While chief executive Stella David stated in March that no reductions were planned, the operator is now implementing changes to enhance operational efficiency and agility. "These changes will help make Entain a stronger, better business," the company stated.
The operator is consulting with affected employees regarding the transition.
The restructuring occurs as the British Remote Gaming Duty increased from 21 to 40 per cent in April. Entain estimates this tax hike will add approximately £200m to annual costs, though the operator aims to absorb the impact. At the end of 2025, the company’s debt stood at £3.64bn, nearly matching its market capitalisation of £3.68bn.
Shares have declined 41 per cent over the past 12 months, currently trading at £5.59.
Other major operators have made similar adjustments recently. Rank Group reported that job cuts helped increase operating profit despite tax impacts. Flutter Entertainment confirmed layoffs earlier this year, while William Hill parent Evoke reduced marketing spend.
Additionally, Entain agreed to sell a 20 per cent stake in Entain CEE to EMMA Capital for €425m and closed several Ladbrokes shops in Ireland earlier this year.
